Promotion and protection of the rights of children

Promotion and protection of the rights of children

BRJ sees its role as much broader than caring for the children who reside there. It seeks to promote the rights of Indigenous children in the wider community.  The Project is part of a network of organizations that work together in relation to child rights and is also a member of the Youth Court in Chiang Mai.

Knowledge of child rights and the law relating to children are provided at every opportunity when engaging with parents, at meetings in schools and villages and with other organizations.  During visits to the children’s villages/communities, child rights are discussed with the village committees, women’s groups and family heads, along with ways to promote the rights of children.

BRJ provides a hotline in the Hmong language relating to cases of child rights violations and has organized seminars on the promotion of child rights which are hosted at the hostel.  Participants have included BRJ residents, relatives of the children, villagers and BRJ staff members.
